Pixies (2015) (mini-review++)

(If you’re curious, my review process. It’s also pasted at the end of this post. I don’t believe in Rotten Tomatoes. I just believe in me.)

SW SCORE: 15

1.5 out of 5 🐙

This is a cheaply animated movie for very young kids with a basic plot, tepid jokes, and clunky animation. I realize I’ve commented twice on the animation but it really was poor and you just can’t do that nowadays. I’m not saying it has to match Pixar’s style or be hyper-realistic. It can be totally stylized. And that’s what it seemed to be when the movie started. But then the characters started to move and the true quality was revealed. If you’re going to try and mimic high grade computer animation, stylized or not, and you clearly don’t have the money, it’s going to end badly. This movie didn’t end badly. That would indicate an ending that prompted an emotional reaction from the viewer. This just, mercifully, ended.

(1) Shark Wrighter (SW) Score: Based on a sum of 5 sub-scores (acting, directing, writing/story, effects: cinematography &/or animation &/or effects, editing) with 1 being terrible and 10 being terrific.

(2) Octopuses (0-5 🐙, with 5 being fantastic and 0 being feces)

(3) Octopuses are my unquantifiable feeling…not that SW score is scientific…but this one is even less so

(4) ++ This optional section includes any incredibly *brilliant observations that don’t fit into simple quantitative slices like the scores and octopuses *(they are likely NOT brilliant)
