(If you’re curious, my review process. It’s also pasted at the end of this post. I don’t believe in Rotten Tomatoes. I just believe in me.)
(***all-purpose SPOILER ALERT*** there may be some in this review)
SW SCORE: 50
5 out of 5 🐙
I don’t know how Pixar keeps doing it. The 4th movie in a franchise is hardly ever good. Sometimes it is cromulent. But usually, it is crap. I really thought there was nowhere else to explore the life of a toy. But I was wrong. It’s just simply another scorchingly original story. The laughs are plenty. The characters are all three dimensional. Even the “bad guy” characters turn out to be much more than hastily drawn archetypes. The choices these wonderful players have to make are heartbreaking and worthy of any human drama. It is such a powerful film. I hope there is a 5th.
Feels level (0 being no tears, 10 being waterfall): 9 – When Woody decides to go with Bo to help save lost toys and has to leave all his friends behind, it is both inspirational and annihilating. It is the most dulcet moment in a tetralogy that has more sincere peaks than any other in motion picture history.
(1) Shark Wrighter (SW) Score: Based on a sum of 5 sub-scores (acting, directing, writing/story, effects: cinematography &/or animation &/or effects, editing) with 1 being terrible and 10 being terrific.
(2) Octopuses (0-5 🐙, with 5 being fantastic and 0 being feces)
(3) Octopuses are my unquantifiable feeling…not that SW score is scientific…but this one is even less so
(4) ++ This optional section includes any incredibly *brilliant observations that don’t fit into simple quantitative slices like the scores and octopuses *(they are likely NOT brilliant)
