(If you’re curious, my review process. It’s also pasted at the end of this post. I don’t believe in Rotten Tomatoes. I just believe in me.)
(***all-purpose SPOILER ALERT*** there may be some in this review)
SW SCORE: 30
3 out of 5 🐙
This movie made such a poor impression on me that I wasn’t even sure it was a Pixar movie when I was doing my research a post about Pixar movies. It just didn’t do anything fresh. The animation was fine but hardly up to the dazzling standard Pixar was known for. The humor was fine. The story was a retread. The whole thing just seemed mailed in. It’s still better than the Cars trilogy and Monsters University but that is no compliment. I’ve tried really hard to not finish this paragraph with the following cheesy line but I can’t help myself. Pixar movies should and usually are great. This is just good. And that’s bad.
Feels level (0 being no tears, 10 being waterfall): 3 – There are two killer sad scenes: the Mufasa homage and the final goodbye between Arlo and Spot. These pour out but the rest of the movie feels too generic and halfhearted and run of the mill and any other ordinary cliche you want to use that the big sad hits lose their emotional sticking power.
(1) Shark Wrighter (SW) Score: Based on a sum of 5 sub-scores (acting, directing, writing/story, effects: cinematography &/or animation &/or effects, editing) with 1 being terrible and 10 being terrific.
(2) Octopuses (0-5 🐙, with 5 being fantastic and 0 being feces)
(3) Octopuses are my unquantifiable feeling…not that SW score is scientific…but this one is even less so
(4) ++ This optional section includes any incredibly *brilliant observations that don’t fit into simple quantitative slices like the scores and octopuses *(they are likely NOT brilliant)
