(If you’re curious, my review process. It’s also pasted at the end of this post. I don’t believe in Rotten Tomatoes. I just believe in me.)
(***all-purpose SPOILER ALERT*** there may be some in this review)
SW SCORE: 41
4.1 out of 5 🐙
One of my favorite Pixar flicks. I just love monsters and fantasy. Not that fantasy is rare in most Pixar movies. I just love monsters, ok? Stop judging me. It’s yet another novel, supremely creative world birthed by the brilliant people at Pixar. I swear I’m not paid by Pixar. I would gladly sell out but no one in their right mind would pay me for my writing or lack of influence. It’s a beautiful, joyous ending that will warm even the most frigid heart. I should know. Mine rests in a pool of absolute zero. I have to give a special shout out to the insane collection of singular voices in this movie: John Goodman, Steve Buscemi, Billy Crystal (who is made to be an animated voice but then so is everyone else in this list), James Coburn, Jennifer Tilly, and the incomparable Frank Oz. It’s a veritable murderer’s row.
Feels level (0 being no tears, 10 being waterfall): 3 – When it appears Boo and Scully will have to separate permanently after developing a strong bond, it is vicious. But I wouldn’t put this up as a kleenex rocker.
(1) Shark Wrighter (SW) Score: Based on a sum of 5 sub-scores (acting, directing, writing/story, effects: cinematography &/or animation &/or effects, editing) with 1 being terrible and 10 being terrific.
(2) Octopuses (0-5 🐙, with 5 being fantastic and 0 being feces)
(3) Octopuses are my unquantifiable feeling…not that SW score is scientific…but this one is even less so
(4) ++ This optional section includes any incredibly *brilliant observations that don’t fit into simple quantitative slices like the scores and octopuses *(they are likely NOT brilliant)
