(If you’re curious, my review process. It’s also pasted at the end of this post. I don’t believe in Rotten Tomatoes. I just believe in me.)
(***all-purpose SPOILER ALERT*** there may be some in this review)
SW SCORE: 32
3.2 out of 5 🐙
I was never a Wonder Woman fan as a comic book nerd. So does that mean I can’t fairly review this movie? No. Guess what other heroes I was never a fan of before they came out in (or were part of) great movies: Iron Man, Ant-Man, Captain Marvel, Doctor Strange, Black Panther, Black Widow, Guardians of the Galaxy, and Shazam. So don’t come at me with that bias noise.
That disclaimer aside, this is how I see Wonder Woman (the movie): The bad guy was boring and underdeveloped. The fight scenes were staid and lacked creativity. The humor was sparse. The plot was generic. The acting performances, for the most part, were good. I say for the most part because the closest Gal Gadot has come to a prestigious acting award is in the audience. If you want to see a comic book movie with a powerful OSCAR WINNING caliber actress playing a strong, smart female lead, top-flight effects, plenty of laughs, slick action pieces, and nuanced villains, check out Captain Marvel.
(1) Shark Wrighter (SW) Score: Based on a sum of 5 sub-scores (acting, directing, writing/story, effects: cinematography &/or animation &/or effects, editing) with 1 being terrible and 10 being terrific.
(2) Octopuses (0-5 🐙, with 5 being fantastic and 0 being feces)
(3) Octopuses are my unquantifiable feeling…not that SW score is scientific…but this one is even less so
(4) ++ This optional section includes any incredibly *brilliant observations that don’t fit into simple quantitative slices like the scores and octopuses *(they are likely NOT brilliant)
