SW SCORE: 36
3.6 out of 5 🐙
I really enjoyed the TV series Chuck that starred Zachary Levi. I didn’t even recognize him when I saw Shazam!. I’m psyched that he’s the lead in one of DC’s only decent comic book movies. It wasn’t Marvel Studios level quality. It’s like DC had a meeting and said: “Hey let’s make a fun and funny movie like they do at Marvel”. And they did their best to copy the feel but they aren’t quite there yet. Also, while I get that Shazam! is supposed to be a bit sillier than the normal hero, the choice to make them comically puffy muscle suits was a bad one. We already get this guy is less serious than the average bear. They should still keep the aesthetic tight. Ant-Man is hilarious but his couture and gear are not hilarious, too. The end was a bit too Mighty Morphin Power Rangers for me but I laughed and had a good time overall which is more than I can say for most DC Universe movies.
Oh yeah. Djimon Hounsou keeps racking up the minor roles in big comic book movies. First Guardians of the Galaxy and now this. He’s Marvel AND DC! Cool.
(1) Shark Wrighter (SW) Score: Based on a sum of 5 sub-scores (acting, directing, writing/story, effects: cinematography &/or animation &/or effects, editing) with 1 being terrible and 10 being terrific.
(2) Octopuses (0-5 🐙, with 5 being fantastic and 0 being feces)
(3) Octopuses are my unquantifiable feeling…not that SW score is scientific…but this one is even less so
(4) ++ This optional section includes any incredibly *brilliant observations that don’t fit into simple quantitative slices like the scores and octopuses *(they are likely NOT brilliant)
