Most people seem to love The Dark Knight more than the final installment of the Nolan Batman trilogy. Not me. While Heath Ledger’s Joker is the best villain of the trilogy, Bane is a powerful runner-up. I love Tom Hardy’s take on the most famous backbreaker. Anne Hathaway is a HUGE upgrade over Maggie Gyllenhaal and Katie Holmes as a combo love-interest/anti-hero/ally. Marion Cotillard is not as impactful as Hathaway but she herself is far better than Gyllenhaal and Holmes as well. Michael Caine is Michael Caine. Morgan Freeman is Morgan Freeman. Those old warhorses effortlessly deliver every time. And finally, Joseph Gordon-Levitt is a scrappy mix of Commissioner Gordon and Batman and his apparent inheritance of the role of Gotham’s protector at the end is a promise I wish could have been fulfilled on screen. And the very final scene just made me smile. Everyone deserves to rest after a job well done.

(1) Shark Wrighter (SW) Score: Based on a sum of 5 sub-scores (acting, directing, writing/story, effects: cinematography &/or animation &/or effects, editing) with 1 being terrible and 10 being terrific.

(2) Octopuses (0-5 🐙, with 5 being fantastic and 0 being feces)

(3) Octopuses are my unquantifiable feeling…not that SW score is scientific…but this one is even less so

(4) ++ This optional section includes any incredibly *brilliant observations that don’t fit into simple quantitative slices like the scores and octopuses *(they are likely NOT brilliant)
