Spider-Man (2002) (mini-review++)

spider1(If you’re curious, my review process. It’s also pasted at the end of this post. I don’t believe in Rotten Tomatoes. I just believe in me.)

(***all-purpose SPOILER ALERT*** there may be some in this review)

SW SCORE: 42

4.5 out of 5 🐙

++

The movie that cemented the modern comic movie era. X-Men was the pioneer but Spider-Man is the biggest name in the Marvel Universe. Nothing but respect for Iron Man but Spider-Man is THE logo. And without the opener and the best comic book movie of all time (Spider-Man 2), there would not have been an Iron Man movie. Don’t come at me with your facts about it being greenlit regardless of Spider-Man’s. I don’t care if it was or it wasn’t. Spider-Man made the MCU mainstream. Love them or hate them, the comic book movie rests on this movie’s shoulders. What’s that? The movie itself? Heartfelt. Funny. Action worthy of the comic book’s gravity-defying friendly neighborhood webslinger. Who knew a horror movie director could shepherd the cultural zeitgeist? Going an unconventional way with the director would become a Marvel staple. And you cannot argue with the results.

(1) Shark Wrighter (SW) Score: Based on a sum of 5 sub-scores (acting, directing, writing/story, effects: cinematography &/or animation &/or effects, editing) with 1 being terrible and 10 being terrific.

(2) Octopuses (0-5 🐙, with 5 being fantastic and 0 being feces)

(3) Octopuses are my unquantifiable feeling…not that SW score is scientific…but this one is even less so

(4) ++ This optional section includes any incredibly *brilliant observations that don’t fit into simple quantitative slices like the scores and octopuses *(they are likely NOT brilliant)
