(If you’re curious, my review process. It’s also pasted at the end of this post. I don’t believe in Rotten Tomatoes. I just believe in me.)
(***all-purpose SPOILER ALERT*** there may be some in this review)
SW SCORE: 40
4 out of 5 🐙
I heard a rumor that this was a page 1 rewrite by William Goldman. And if you watch any of the subsequent films written by Sylvester Stallone, you will notice a sharp decrease in style and quality from Rocky. Hey, it’s just a rumor. It’s not like I have a lot to contribute to analysis of this legendary film. The one major beef I have with all of the Rocky films (8 total so far, including the two Creed films) is the actual fighting. If you’ve watched any amount of heavyweight boxing, fights, where both fighters land endless power shots on each other, are virtually nonexistent. Even the Joe Frazier – Muhammad Ali wars don’t come close to the cartoonish fight violence in this franchise’s ring sets. But I get it. A normal boxing match would be way too boring for a final climactic set piece to a movie. It’s just that the rest of the movie is really gritty and realistic and raw that the fight is like a rotten cherry on top.
Review process: (this is always evolving, I’m sad to say. I’m more of a watcher who makes mostly unhelpful observations about things I have absorbed. Like a pop culture blob.)
Two scores are assigned: (I don’t believe in Rotten Tomatoes. I just believe in me)
(1) Shark Wrighter (SW) Score: Based on a sum of 5 sub-scores (acting, directing, writing/story, effects: cinematography &/or animation &/or effects, editing) with 1 being terrible and 10 being terrific.
(2) Octopuses (0-5 🐙, with 5 being fantastic and 0 being feces)
(3) Octopuses are my unquantifiable feeling…not that SW score is scientific…but this one is even less so
(4) ++ This optional section includes any incredibly *brilliant observations that don’t fit into simple quantitative slices like the scores and octopuses *(they are likely NOT brilliant)
