(If you’re curious, my review process. It’s also pasted at the end of this post. I don’t believe in Rotten Tomatoes. I just believe in me.)
(***all-purpose SPOILER ALERT*** there may be some in this review)
The mini-review:
Happy Feet
acting 5
directing 6
writing 7
effects 7
editing 6
SW score: 27
3 out of 5 octopi
++ I know I’m rough with the SW score on this one. But (cliche alert) sometimes the thing is greater than the sum of its parts. I can’t help it. I found the singing and dancing penguins adorable. I’m a simple man. But that doesn’t make it a good movie. It’s just a movie I enjoyed. Unfortunately, Robin Williams doesn’t really flex his comic muscles in his amusing little role. After his epic animated turn in Aladdin, seeing him spout a few funny lines just pales in comparison and makes me long for the ’90s (where I also still had hair so I might be biased).

(1) Shark Wrighter (SW) Score: Based on a sum of 5 sub-scores (acting, directing, writing/story, effects: cinematography &/or animation &/or effects, editing) with 1 being terrible and 10 being terrific.
(2) Octopuses (0-5 š, with 5 being fantastic and 0 being feces)
(3) Octopuses are my unquantifiable feelingā¦not that SW score is scientificā¦but this one is even less so
(4) ++ This optional section includes any incredibly *brilliant observations that don’t fit into simple quantitative slices like the scores and octopuses *(they are likely NOT brilliant)
